Inflatable or hard-shell hot tub hire? Which to choose
Updated 6 November 2026 · By the Hot Tub Hire team
Short answer: For most garden parties and weekends, an inflatable hot tub is the cheaper and easier option because it fits through any doorway and runs from a normal socket. A hard-shell hot tub costs more but has moulded seats, stronger jets and faster heating, so it suits bigger groups, longer hires and colder months.

Side-by-side comparison
| Inflatable | Hard-shell | |
|---|---|---|
| Typical weekend price | £120 to £250 | £250 to £450 |
| Seating | Sit on the floor | Moulded seats |
| Jets | Air bubbles | Water massage jets |
| Heating time from cold | Around 24 hours or more | Usually quicker |
| Access needed | Very little | Wider route to the garden |
When an inflatable is right
- You want the lowest price
- Access to the garden is tight or through the house
- It is a short weekend hire in warmer weather
When a hard-shell tub is right
- You have a larger group
- You want proper seats and massage jets
- The hire is a week or longer, or in the colder months
